My love of horses began at an early age, like it does for most of us. I attended Texas A&M University and graduated in 1991 with a degree in Animal Science and all of my electives in horse care and riding classes. My goal was to attend vet school but that was not to be. So I took a job at a Dressage and Combined Training Barn. I quickly became the barn manager. This position allowed me to learn Dressage, horse care and management skills from some top notch instructors.
After moving to Houston and after a few different jobs in the animal care industry including training and teaching beginning Dressage. I met another massage therapist and she gave me the best advice I have had to date. She said go learn how to do this.
In February of 2000 I followed that advice and became certified by Equissage in Virginia. It was a wonderful experience, all be it a cold one. I came home and began working on horses and developing my clientele. As I began to work with the sports massage I found a need for other techniques for certain horses. This led me to the Equine Touch Program in 2001. It has become a valuable tool in my work with horses. Then to Equine Field Therapy and Aromatherapy. I have recently spent several weeks in Washington State studying structural integration for horses at the Equine Natural Movement School. This training has revolutionized my work on both horses and people.
As I provided therapy for horses and worked with trainers, I found there was a need for someone that understood riding and bodywork to help the riders develop their position. I went back to school to become a Licensed Massage Therapist to provide therapy for the rider as well. At this point Equuilibrum blossomed into a full practice with no time to spare.
I am happy to say that many of the top Dressage trainers in this region have become clients for themselves, their clients and their horses. Horses and riders that I have worked with are USDF Regional Champions, Arabian National Champions and qualifiers, National Andalusian Show qualifiers, and Dressage at Devon qualifiers. While it is an honor to be able to help these wonderful athletes reach their potential at the highest level of competition, I also take great joy in helping the back yard, abused or mistreated horses work happily for their owners.
